I recently received an approval of a Global Entry appeal I had prepared on behalf of a client. It took about six months to receive the decision after we had submitted the appeal.
My client had been denied Global Entry due to an incident with law enforcement. In the appeal, I proved that the incident was of the detain-release variety and was never prosecuted. My client may had had a second incident with law enforcement. However, the record was not clear as to if a conviction had ever taken place. The incident was also extremely remote in time, more than thirty years ago. The nature of the incident was also the type that would have been at worst an infraction. In short, this passenger is not a flight risk at all and I am happy he has his Global Entry privileges.
The mechanics of the recent approval are also noteworthy. My client received a letter stating, “We are pleased to inform you that your U. S. Customs and Border Protection, Global Entry membership application has been processed and you are now invited to visit an enrollment center to complete the enrollment process.” Interestingly, when he did go for his appointment, the enrollment center did not seem to know how to find this letter in their system. People who successfully appeal, therefore, should take a copy of the approval letter with them along with the other required documents to the enrollment center appointment.
