Trusted Traveler, Global Entry, SENTRI, NEXUS Denials: Customs Violations

I am pleased to report that I have been able to have a client’s Global Entry privileges restored.  This client did commit a very minor customs violation a long time ago.

I have been thinking recently about how the CBP Ombudsman’s office would treat a reinstatement request for a Trusted Traveler who had committed a customs violation.  In the case of my client, she had committed a minor violation many years ago.  She did not have any other incidents or violations.  She has just reactivated her GOES account and is proceeding with re-applying.

I have been under the impression that the Ombudsman’s office would treat the issue similarly to how it treats applicants who have committed a minor criminal infraction a long time ago.  Of course, all if this is discretionary.  Trusted Traveler status is a privilege and not a right.

The Ombudsman’s office has indicated it would look at the overall facts and circumstances behind any reinstatement request.  The Ombudsman’s office appears to be granting reinstatement requests for applicants who commit a minor criminal infraction a long time ago, with no other negative factors.  Based on my recently successful reinstatement request, the Ombudsman’s office seems to be leaning the same way with regard to customs violations.  In other words, you should be able to reinstate your Trusted Traveler status with a minor customs violation a long time ago, with no other negative factors.  If your next question is ‘how long ago?’  I do not have the answer to that question.  The Ombudsman’s office, again, will look at the overall picture in determining whether or not to reinstate privileges.

Can anyone actually get approved for SENTRI even if a family member has been deported is that at all possible. Im relocating myself and my kids to Tijuana to be with My husband who was had his Visa denied and unable to reapply until 2028.(10 years).

Submitted application was denied on basis I had broken federal immigration law by entering the country at age 6 and became naturalized under Ronald Reagan’s 1986 immigration reform. I am 50 years old today no criminal record and pay all my taxes however sentry denied. Do I have a case?

Hello, I was denied Sentri a few years ago because my husband is deported. I re applied over a year ago and haven’t heard anything from them. The website states pending review. What should I do at this point, and what are the chances of ever getting my application approved? Thank you.

I have applied three times for the sentri program and have been denied all of them. I believe it was because my father had a drug related offense in 1997, I never get a reason but that’s the only thing that I can think about, I have a visa and it has never been mentioned in the ten years I’ve had it. Is there a chance I might ever get a sentri myself?

I was denied sentri 2 years ago and was not given a reason. Was told decision came from headquarters. What can I do? Can I re-apply? Also… what address
    Thank you for your help

    • Unfortunately, CBP does not seem to be giving reasons for denials to anyone. It’s left to the applicants to figure out what the issue might be. Perhaps go back into your records and research whether or not you have been arrested, or committed a customs violation, etc…

My Sentri was revoked around 6 years ago. It was taken because i forgot my sentri while crossing, they told me to make an appointment with a supervisor, which i did. The supervisor was nice and after talking to him, he gave me my Sentri back, I few years later i unfortunately forgot it again and the Sentri was taking from me again. I again made an appointment with the supervisor but this time he said that he could not help me get it back, he said that Washington makes those decisiones now, he also showed me a list with 5 dates from the last 10 years of when I forgot my Sentri or forgot one of my kids Sentri. He recommended me using the reconsideration option, which I did, but was denied. I’ve reapplied again and have paid again (twice) but now I’ve been stuck in “Application in Progress” for about 2 years.

My wife and 4 kids have Sentri except me. I live in Mexico and have to cross the border for work.Is there anything more I can do to get it back? I have no criminal record or anything.
